‘’It’s about where we come from, not where we run from’’ (Seinabo Sey)
The first chapter of the Foundation is: the Source
This music piece is part of a 7-part album that is released later this year. It all starts with the source or origin. What is our source of life? From whom did we arise? On whose shoulders do we stand on, and who is living through us..How do we reconnect to them and our heart? And how do we create space for loss and love? Listen to my new melody of reconnecting to the Source. Upcoming chapters contain field recordings from Senegal and Guinea, in collab with traditional healing artists.
This is a story about building a home within oneself. A home that you can always come home to and invite others to pay a visit. Addressed to anyone that has ever felt like he/she didn't belong. Partly recorded in Senegal, partly recorded in the Netherlands, mixed like her heritage, two worlds but one story. This story is about building a strong foundation within oneself, strong heritage as soil, boundaries as walls, love as light, chapters as rooms and new beginnings as doors.
As humans we lay the foundation in our first 7 years of life and we build inner identity. Because my first years were filled with chaos, change and different environments, i rebuild at a later age and music guided me in this journey. I had the vision of sharing these stories, these chapters of rebuilding inner identity at a later age. The collection of intuitive compositions that tells a story of resilience, reconnection, and restoration. A story of love, loss and identity where Fula traditions meet neo-classical blues and healing melodies.
The title of this album is an ode to my brother Albert Alimou Diallo, who couldn't find home within himself and before his passing, when deeply mentally wounded, unable to hold a conversation, he was able to rap all the lyrics to his favourite song; The Foundation, Xzibit, 1996. It all starts with building our foundation.
His story didn’t end there, like all stories in life are endless. We grow and we learn and we are all needed. In a tumultuous world, where change is constant, we need to belong so we can build and create together. This record asks for active listening, active participation in life.
We are all needed. Listen to the Source now and share your reflections, thoughts. I'd love to hear from you.
